The PlayStation 4 has been doing pretty well in the pre-order department especially after an extremely good showing at E3 this year and it would seem that GameStop is no longer taking US pre-orders for the console after appearing to sell-out of its allocation of launch units. The PlayStation 4 is still present on GameStop’s website but it is now displayed as being sold out and no more pre-orders can be made but you can sign-up to be notified of when you can buy one again.
Speaking to GameInformer, a spokesperson for GameStop confirmed that the retailer has indeed stopped taking pre-orders for the PlayStation 4:
“Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4.”
This is interesting after a rumor had surfaced a few weeks ago that Sony had told GameStop that they can take as many pre-orders as they possibly could but Sony did also say that we should expect demand to outstrip supply. Despite the conflicting messages about unlimited pre-orders and then the ceasing of new pre-orders, Sony is looking like the PS4 is going to have a more successful launch than the PS3.
