Pokemon Legends Z-A: Complete Lumiose City Exploration Guide
Pokemon Legends Z-A reimagines Lumiose City as a vast urban environment that serves as both the game's sole setting and its most ambitious design achievement. Unlike previous Pokemon games that spread content across multiple towns and routes, Z-A concentrates everything within the expanding boundaries of a single city undergoing a massive redevelopment project. This guide covers every district of Lumiose City, including how to unlock new areas, where to find rare Pokemon spawns, and the locations of every hidden item and side quest. The city is divided into twelve districts, each with a unique theme, habitat type, and set of challenges that unlock progressively as the urban redevelopment storyline advances.
The Central Plaza district is your starting area and hub for the entire game. Here you will find the primary Pokemon Center, the first clothing boutique, and Professor Sycamore's research lab where you receive your starter. The plaza itself functions as a real-time gathering space where other players' characters appear as passersby if you are connected online. Hidden in the alleys behind the central fountain are three item-filled dumpsters that reset daily, providing a reliable source of potions and Poke Balls during the early game. The Prism Tower at the plaza's center becomes accessible after the third story chapter and serves as a fast-travel hub connecting to every unlocked district.
The Industrial Quarter and Riverside Park districts unlock simultaneously after completing the first major story mission. The Industrial Quarter features steel and electric-type Pokemon among abandoned construction equipment and partially built skyscrapers. This is the earliest location where you can catch Magnemite and Beldum, both of which evolve into powerful allies for the mid-game. The Riverside Park is the game's primary water-type habitat, with fishing spots along the canal that yield different Pokemon depending on the time of day. A hidden cave behind the waterfall in the park's northern section contains a static encounter with a level-thirty Lapras that can be challenged once per playthrough.
The most rewarding districts are locked behind the game's optional urban development quests, which require you to invest resources earned from catching Pokemon and completing research tasks. The Botanical Gardens district, unlocked by fully funding the Parks Department, contains the game's only grass-type habitat and hosts a rotating selection of rare Pokemon that changes weekly. The Underground Metro district is the largest area in the game, a sprawling network of tunnels and abandoned stations populated by ghost and dark-type Pokemon. Fully exploring the metro reveals the entrance to the post-game dungeon, a fifteen-floor challenge tower where every legendary Pokemon from the Kalos region can eventually be encountered.
