PlayStation 2 Shipments Cease In Japan, Sadness Ensues
While many of us still crack out the old boy for a play now and again, those in Japan who decided not to pick up the console will no longer have the option to do so, with Sony ceasing shipments in the region.
The guys over at Famitsu broke the news that the console which sold in excess of 150 million units since March 2000 will close its disk tray for the last time. The console had a good run until the release of the PlayStation 3 in 2006, making it somewhat obsolete.
Sony has not yet announced if other regions will succumb to the same fate, but with Japan getting the wheels in motion, others will not be far behind.
