LG Electronics has revealed that sales of its Optimus LTE smartphone have exceeded one million units. The world’s first HD LTE smartphone, the Optimus LTE is currently available in the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea.
First launched in Korea in October 2011, the Optimus LTE hit sales of 600,000 units there in the first three months, making it the most popular LTE-capable phone in a highly competitive market. On the first day of its launch in Japan, the Optimus LTE also recorded sales of 8,500 units. These numbers are good but LG has got to do more if it wants to be really relevant in the smartphone market. LG always makes decent devices but they never knock your socks off. Apple continues to innovate, Google is coming with Android and if the Motorola deal closes then they will be even more well positioned. I don’t know what LG should do but they need to do something fast and its going to have to BIG or else they will be even more irrelevant than they already are.
