Today at CES 2012, Immersion announced that the all new Pantech Element tablet would be the “first publicly-available tablet that delivers a high-definition haptic experience.” The 8-inch Pantech Element is an Android tablet that “combines a single piezo actuator from Samsung Electro-Mechanics Corp and the DRV-8662 haptic piezo driver from Texas Instruments with Immersion’s TouchSense 5000 control software and MOTIV Integrator tools to produce cutting-edge touch feedback effects throughout the user interface and applications.”

Dennis Sheehan, Immersion’s vice president of marketing, states that “By working with Pantech to customize the Element with our MOTIV Integrator, we developed an intuitive and engaging user experience. Users not only receive subtle and compelling enhancements to their device navigation, but they also receive enlivening haptic feedback for multi-media content.”

User navigation enhanced with intuitive haptic effects; new audio conversion delivers a multi-media experience users can feel

2012 International CES

SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced that the Pantech Element is the first publicly-available tablet that delivers a high-definition haptic experience.

Launched in the US at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Pantech’s Element is an 8-inch, Android-based tab. Utilizing Immersion’s piezo reference design, the tablet combines a single piezo actuator from Samsung Electro-Mechanics Corp and the DRV-8662 haptic piezo driver from Texas Instruments with Immersion’s TouchSense® 5000 control software and MOTIV™ Integrator tools to produce cutting-edge touch feedback effects throughout the user interface and applications.

“Immersion’s TouchSense 5000 software takes advantage of the unique capabilities of high-fidelity actuators to create responsive and distinct haptic effects,” said Dennis Sheehan, Immersion’s vice president of marketing. “By working with Pantech to customize the Element with our MOTIV Integrator, we developed an intuitive and engaging user experience. Users not only receive subtle and compelling enhancements to their device navigation, but they also receive enlivening haptic feedback for multi-media content.”

“As a technology leader and innovator, we are committed to delivering the most advanced multi-media experiences to our consumers,” said Lim Sung-jae, Director of Overseas Marketing at Pantech Headquarters. “Immersion’s high definition touch feedback produces better, crisper effects – unique to any other user experience in the market.”

In addition to utilizing Immersion’s MOTIV Integrator to waterfall haptic effects throughout the Android UI and applications, the Element is also the first commercial implementation of MOTIV Integrator’s Reverb Module to automatically insert haptic feedback into applications by translating audio data into effects. For users watching video or playing games, the Reverb Module creates a more engaging multi-media experience by seamlessly combining touch effects with audio content.

“The key to enhancing mobile content with haptics is to make UI and applications feel like they look and like they sound,” explains Chris Ullrich, Immersion’s vice president of user experience. “The unique capabilities of high fidelity actuators allow us to create nuanced effects that compliment, rather than overwhelm, the user experience.”
