Do you like the idea of all this new-fangled 3D technology in games but can’t stump up the cash for a new TV and 3D glasses? It seems like you aren’t the only one, and Sony has been listening to your pleas.
This fall they will release a bundle including a 24” 3D monitor display, one pair of 3D glasses, and HDMI cable and a copy of Resistance 3, which will of course take advantage of 3D graphics itself. Sony is aiming for an entry-level price here and seem to be aiming this display at college dorms and bedrooms, the MSRP is $499.
As well as being a great way for consumers to get into 3D gaming, the display also has another neat trick; when playing two player split screen games, if both players are wearing 3D glasses then the screen will actually display a full screen for each gamer to view, presumably in 2D as the effect of showing two separate pictures will be used for the split screen aspect rather than a 3D display. This is actually a very clever idea and again sounds like it’s aimed at the college or house share market where space may be at a premium.
As well as the low-cost display, Sony is also releasing their own brand of PS branded 3D glasses, which by themselves will retail for $69.99. With some great 3D games on the way like Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3 now may be a good time to jump on to the 3D bandwagon.
