Customers Say Kindle Is For Reading, iPad And Others Are For Everything Else

Amazon just reported that there 3rd generation Kindle has become the best selling product in Amazon history in just about 5 months which is absolutely astonishing. With these results, it appears that the Kindle is far from dead and it doesn’t look like it will be the iPad that kills it.

Will Consumers Buy Both?

What it seems like consumers are saying is that they really like the iPad for just about everything EXCEPT reading. It seems that in the case of reading, folks still prefer the Kindle in what looks to be a hands down situation. The truth of the matter is that it is very hard for the iPad or any other tablet to beat the Kindle at something that it was specifically designed for. At this point, Amazon has gotten the ergonomics and design of the Kindle down to a science and even more important they have gotten the production and its associated cost of it down. The Kindle is extremely well designed for what it was intended to do and that $139 price point is extremely attractive, so attractive in fact that I got one for myself this Christmas.

All this makes me believe that there is more than enough room in the market for e-readers and tablets, one is for reading and the other is for entertainment. That is the position that I think that most people are taking, that they don’t have to decide between the Kindle and a tablet, but that’s just me what do you think?
