It really hurts me to have to write this article, but you know I always call them how I see them here at ZKG. So anyway that reads this blog knows that while I love the PS3, I respect other people’s preferences. I just want to make sure that folks who read this understand that I am NO XBOX 360 Fanboy!! The PS3 console is the only one I own and thus writing this article doesn’t help my argument but it has to be said.
In my previous article I spoke about what happened to me recently, I was playing Call of Duty: World at War online and kicking some major butt I might add. Then the game closes out and I am waiting for it load back up and it never does. I hard cancel the game since my XMB was still alive and after a few seconds I got the error noise and the home screen loaded back up but this time the game disc wasn’t there. I tried to take it out and put it back in, that didn’t work. I tried powering down and powering back up but that didn’t work. Finally, I got on the message boards and started to look around and see if anyone else had experienced this and this was the beginning of the story. In fact, a lot of people had. Most of the post ended with the people sending it back to Sony to be fixed for free if it was still in warranty or paying $150 US if the warranty period had expired. I found that this problem has happened with old and new systems alike. Here is a note, keep your receipt in a safe place.

I read this trick about putting a DVD in and that would restore the compound elements or something. I did that and by golly it worked..or at least I thought it worked. At first it worked to the point of allowing it to read the blu ray disc again but it went from bad to worse after that. I was able to load COD again but then after finishing a game online, it froze once again and this I had to hard quit. I tried other games and no dice. Eventually, I got some error “could not complete start operation” and that was it. My PS3 was now a glorified DVD player and a very expensive one at that. Since I am a PS3 junkie, I went out and bought another one but now I wonder what to do with the one I have here. I could pay the $150 and send it back and then try to sell it for a little more, I could sell it at Gamestop for like $100 credit, I don’t know that’s not the point of this post.
The point of this post is that Sony appears to have a problem. XBOX has the RROD and now Sony seems to have a problem with the disc lens either failing or becoming in some way compromised but it all ends with the PS3 not being able to read the Blu Ray disc. I had my PS3 a little over a year and never move it. There is nothing that should have occurred to cause this. I understand things fail and anything with this many moving pieces is bound to have issues but this seems to be a little more than a few issues. Bottom line if this happens to you, know that you are not alone and it has happened to a lot of other people, just go to google and type “ps3 can’t read disc” and you will see how many. I don’t know exactly how big this problem is but it is bigger than I thought. Be aware.

I keep a backup of my PS3 system data on an external drive and update it semi-regularly. I’m wondering if reloading the system data (if i run into the error) would correct the problem or if it would only be a band-aid fix like the one you found? Well I’m just hoping I don’t ever have it happen on my system o.O
I don’t think that would work as the problem appears to be with the disc drive. The hard drive in my old PS3 is fine, in fact I reformatted it and it loads just like a new one, just won’t read a blue ray.
Well looks like COD is the problem this has been confirmed somthing in the code makes the disk turn to fast and it fux the reader…. hehe so im so happy again that its not my system its that piece o shit game..
