Players Crush SOCOM:Confrontation Servers, Lots Of Gamers On The Outside Looking In
Just had to shoot this update out as I try in vain to connect to the SOCOM servers. So got the game which requires you to download the newest PS3 Update 2.50. After that process, you then need to put the disc in which will pop up the game icon and a game installer icon, you must first click the installer which will load the SOCOM game data onto your hard drive and yes it is almost 3GB. After this process that took more than a little while to get going, I finally got it installed and launched the game. Then you have to download the most recent game update which is almost a gig. Finally, I get done and am ready to play when I am called away for something, this was at about 4:00pm eastern time. I got back home about 6:30pm eastern time and tried to get into a game, but I had a problem with my wireless headset because I could hear other people but they couldn’t hear me. So I quit the game to go fix the microphone issues, bad move. After making the quick changes I needed, which took about 2 minutes I go and try to start the game back up again. That’s when I get a little “Failed to Log In To Server” error. Now I know the reason I can’t log in is because the servers are all full and thus I am sitting hear trying in vain to connect. I doubt this will clear anytime soon because I am sure that most gamers are doing the same thing I am doing which is trying over and over to get back in and effectively cancelling each other out.
Anyway this goes back to one of my most recent post about making the online experience better and more reliable. I mean come on if you are going to make a game that is completely dependent upon the ability to get online and have your servers handle the load then you have to do better. I mean how many people did they think were going to hit the servers at once? They should have been more prepared. But its just another failure of a gaming company to provide an adequately resourced online environment, this almost makes me want to take this back and get my money back. I mean it just seems like gamers deserve better.
So if you are out there having this problem know that you are not alone and lots of us are having the same frustrating problem as you. In the end, I guess I will go and put some more time into Saint’s Row 2 which is pretty good so far and try it again later. What is the moral of this post, if you do manage to connect to the SOCOM servers, DO NOT quit the game for any reason or you will be sitting on the sidelines with the rest of us. Even if you do get in you may find yourself waiting in the lobby of games for a while but keep trying. I am sure they will add more servers to the load over the next week and by next week this won’t be a problem, but it shouldn’t be a problem today now should it? If you combine this with the large number of reports about games just being dropped for no reason right in the middle of a fight and this is riducolous. I just finally was able to get into a game after an hour of trying and do you know what happened, after about 2 minutes and I got killed and made one kill I was completely kicked out of the game and off of the SOCOM servers and as I write I am looking at the screen as it tries to initialize to the network. Like I said earlier I know that this is a new game but if online is going to be your only way to play, that environment must be up and reliable and right now for I can only imagine thousands of other gamers like myself that just isn’t the case.

i agree ive been sitting here forever trying to connect to the servers….should have ordered saints row first lol…damn…well hopefully ill see ya in there add me if you want my psn id : jameswellard
This is incredibly frustrating. They delay, and delay the game and finally release it and everything is a mess. Servers never work, the game always freezes, the socom mic always has problems to install not to mention the literally 5 hour process of installing the game, getting corrupted data and getting one percent done every 30 minutes. What a serious letdown on socoms release
What a joke! I too was in this boat. After waiting for this release since the day I purchased my PS3 almost 3 years ago, to say I was severly disappointed is an understatement. I could hardly stand it yesterday, I felt like a kid at Christmas. I have a wife and family so I couldn’t jump on as soon as I got home no matter how much I wanted to. After all the homework was done, baths were taken, and kids were tucked in bed, I eagerly opened my game ready to play. But wait, not so fast, had to perform a system update on the PS3. No big deal, done. Pop the game in and … Not so fast, have to download to the hard drive. Why this is required, I don’t know. I assume it has to deal with load times. If the game is stored locally on the hard drive I imagine it helps the maps load faster. Okay, so I comply and I’m ready to roll! Hold on, have to download the latest patch first. I expected this would be necessary to address any bugs discovered during the beta so I really wasn’t too surprised about that, but I was kind of frustrated at how long the darn thing took to complete. Okay almost 2 hours later, and I’m finally ready to rock! Only to discover the servers were having load capacity issues! What the F#%K! Are you kidding me??? Didn’t they stress test them, and whatever else you have to do to handle the load? Come on /Six! You have go to be kidding me! For a game that is on-line only, I along with the rest of the Socom community expect to be able to play it when I pop it into my PS3. If I can’t what good is the game? I now have a $60 coaster! Thanks, but I don’t think that is what we want. I’ll remain patient and give it a try again this evening, but I think /six needs to think long and hard about charging us for the first set of map packs they release, assuming we can ever play the game!
I absolutely agree with Matt above! I was able to get in a few times play a few games and experience the /SIX gaming screw-up of the year! Talking to a couple peeps in game and one was like.. “stop complaining.. if ya dont like the game then dont play it..” C’mon people, dont you feel screwed for buying a product just to bring it home and find that it doesnt work? Most peeps would take it back right away if it was a camera or toaster or something. If your game is online-only then make sure you have the server resources to promise such a claim.
I have yet to play the game…………(the servers are shit)
This game pissed the shit out of me last night, I spent 2 hrs trying to log into a fu**ing session, but nope it was a waste of my time. I would get this stupid ass message every 10 seconds about an error with the ranks and stats, it would just pop out multiple time like crazy. When I finally got into a lobby, the game never started, then I’d get kicked out and the whole process repeated it self.
You know for a 1st party title, this has got to be a shit game. The interface is hectic, annoying, and confusing, too many steps just to join a lobby, this is nothing like COD4 where you click “play on line”, “look for a game mode you want”, automatically “join a lobby” wait a couple of seconds, and voila you are shooting.
Not with SOCOM, you have to go through a whole bunch of steps before you start playing, and I cant stress enough how confusing the interface is.
I agree with you all. WTF I got a game in and there was all these damn lag glitches. And to boot I was kicking butt and my stats were not even accounted for. Are we really dealing with some serious morons. Sony don’t make me ask for my freakin money back. Fix the problem and make the PS3 worth playing on. I’m seriously loosing my patience.
Ok i can get into games then i ready up and get booted! Hell now i can’t even find andy channels. You would think since its a online only game the Slant Six would be ready for all this! THIS FLIPPIN BLOWS. Well i gues my PS3 is goin to collect dust once again.See everyone on XBL!
After finally getting past the corrupt data problem it got on for a sec only to keep getting hammed with notices about hown theres a problem connecting to the server . If i can get in its not for long,Slant 6 is shitty, They didnt even sell out of pre orders and theres problems, i mean if they did there would be alot more people trying to get on. i guess it couldnt get worse. Anyway they should go back to psp,ps3 was way too much for them and they dropped the fucking ball
I was able to play a total of 8 games so far. I’ve had the game for 2 days now. I was unable to get on all day today. Getting this server issue resolved should be a #1 priority for these goofs! STOP COUNTING OUR MONEY, AND FIX THE PROBLEM! You bubble-head, biscuit-neck monkey mother fluckers.
Last night, (when I was able to log on, but not start a game) I had to go to a Canada West server (and I live in Philly). Now I can’t even login to the server. Somebody light a fire under the a$$e$ of these dimwitted apes.
The worst part: I’m frustrated enough to want my money back, but of the little I’ve played I just want to play more. Trying to get my money back on an opened game would probably be more hassle then logging on. I guess as consumers we need to let SCEA and Slant Six know that this is unacceptable. They’ve got us by the cahones.
I agree with the rest of them.I brought the socom yesterday, got home downloaded ps3 system update2.50,downloaded socom game installer, downloaded game data1.10.The whole download process took 4-5 hours.Try to start game and pop ups kept appearing saying intailizing network failed.I try all evening last night for 8 hours.Me and the rest of the ps3 owners are f***ing pest off. This will absolutly damage sales because socom owners are spreading the word as we speak saying the game doesn’t work. It’s a shame the first socom on ps3 has failed on the release week.\Six better do a major upgrade to the server. From what I read the socom is world wide or will soon. Why wouldn’t \Six prepare their server to be able to have the load capacity of about est.500 billion user or more? It’s the #1 anticipated game on ps3. I’m will give this game(server) about a week.If not 99.9% improvement,my socom will be for sale. The only thing I made out on is the ps3 wireless headset(it’s superb to my standards). \Six get work fast or profit will get smaller,or better yet might lose employment from sony. For this f*** up the first map pack @nd add ons download should be free from the PSN.
Well, I just bought socom about 4 hours ago (8:00p.m. October 19th) well anyways have the exact problems everyone is having, but I think i will wait a couple of days before trying to get back on. I am just glad theres nothing wrong with my network which was my first worry, haha,

This is really annoying. I was so hyped about this game. After falling asleep downloading all the patches and updates like everyone else, I finally woke up and was able to log in. But I was disconnected and have not yet been able to log in……… Its been more than 8 hours now…
I want to be compensated for this…….I have been scared physically and emotionally from not being able to connect…….
i cant believe that as many people that were anticipating the release of this, as many fans that this game carries, and being one of the games responsible for changing online game play all together…… WE THE FANS HAVE BEEN LET DOWN!!! I am having the same problem as everyone else and i bought the game late hoping most of the problems would be fixed for i did not want to see socom in this current state… SERVERS SERVERS SERVERS… thats all i can say right now the rest can get fixed later but WOW 40 bucks for an online game that CANT GET ONLINE!!!! does that not sound strange to anyone.. im gonna wait till about the 4th of NOV. hoping that at least the servers will be up… Im loyal and want to stay a SOCOMer but i must say COD 4 was ready this was not.. Please fix this its pathetic to have waited so long for such a let down…. GET IT RIGHT…. Sony might want to rethink that slant 6 contract real soon or think about losing a lot of ps3 owners to games that let you play…. like i dont know microsoft…..
This game is actually pretty good, when you can get in. I’ve played a total of 20 games so far, which isn’t that much considering I get booted out ever 10 minutes.
Downloaded the game, downloaded the updates. Can’t log in. This freaking blows. Sony get your act together.
This isnt fair!
looks like they didnt fix the server capacity i havent been able to get on for like 1 hour my ps3 froze and i had to re boot it and now i cant get in WTF!!!!
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
