I happened to be up late the other night and got to searching around like I normally do and came across something very interesting. I was in the Playstation store and was looking through the add-ons and saw the Metal Gear Solid database. This is an encyclopedia, a relationship map, and timeline that will answer every single question you ever had about the Metal Gear saga. It downloads straight to your hard drive, so you don’t even need the game to use it. It is pretty small at only 77MB but has the entire 21 year metal gear history in it.
You can learn about all your favorite characters in detail and all the events leading up to and including Guns of the Patriots. The only trick is that you have to have a completed MGS 4 game save on your hard drive to unlock the content relevant to MGS 4 so as not to spoil it if you haven’t played it yet. Let me make sure I make it clear that you don’t have to have the game disc to download and use the database at all and the only thing you won’t see if you don’t have a completed MGS4 game save on your hard drive is the stuff in MGS 4. You can even unlock that manually but be careful as you might ruin the story for yourself if you haven’t played it or finished it. So if you want it, this is how to get it.
Go to the Playstation Store, click Add-ons, then click Add-ons again for the PS3 ones, and then scroll down to the third row and third column and you should see it. Then just download it and follow the instructions and you are good to go. Enjoy.
