The United Kingdom has pretty much always been a Sony loving country, ever since the original PlayStation launched there back in 1995. Nintendo has never had much of a foothold in the land of rain and royalty, and although the Xbox 360 did very well in Blighty, the PlayStation brand has always been number one. It wasn’t much of a surprise then to discover that the PlayStation 4 has recently broken records as the fastest selling console in UK history.
Chart-Track said PS4 beat the eight-year record held by Sony’s PlayStation Portable, which launched in 2005 with 185,000 sales. PS4 beat Xbox One, which launched on 22nd November, and its predecessor PlayStation 3. In addition to this, Killzone: Shadow Fall also charted at number four in the games chart, the highest position for any of the exclusive PS4 or Xbox One titles. Oh, and Knack sold more copies than Super Mario 3D World, coming in at numbers 13 and 14 respectively. That’s got to hurt.
So PS4 is certainly selling in high numbers, also selling more in its first weekend than the Wii U has managed in 12 months. Exciting times for Sony if the momentum continues.
