Steam has added so many incredible features including Big Picture mode, Trading Cards, Greenlight, Early Access, support for Linux titles, and Family & Friend Sharing. Valve also started up the Pipeline high school intern program! On top of that is the MMO Forum integration, and Twitch TV partnership. My favorite thing about the platform are the absolutely incredible sales on games of course. And then the biggest and most recent news of all, the Steam OS, console, and amazing looking controller!
At this point, is anybody actually surprised that Steam has over 65 million users?! Surprised or not, that is a very impressive feat. And it will only continue to grow. 2013 has been quite a thrilling year for the platform and it also marked the 10 year anniversary!
2014 should be even better as Valve looks to expand Steam’s services and offerings to gamers and developers by holding the Steam Developer Days in Seattle, WA this January and rolling out the recently announced Steam Machines with a variety of hardware partners later in the year.
With how impressive and popular the Steam platform is, it still makes me laugh how many people are out there that insist on “needing” their physical media. They will join the digital side. It is inevitable. The force is strong in the cloud.
Happy Anniversary Steam/Valve! Thanks for all of the awesome!
