Many years went by and a sequel to Mirror’s Edge looked more and more unlikely but at E3 this year, a follow-up to Mirror’s Edge was announced and it has now been revealed that the delay wasn’t down to EA not being willing to stump up the cash, it was DICE not knowing what they wanted to do next. DICE producer Patrick Bach explained all to VideoGamer and dispelled the many different conspiracy theories doing the rounds that focus on EA and the untrue accusation that they were holding the game back.
In the interview with VideoGamer, Patrick Bach said:
“The interesting thing is that it’s not about EA blocking DICE, it’s about DICE not – imagine this: it’s your own money. What do you want to bet on? You want to bet on something that you know will be great. You can’t just bet on a name. You need to have like, what’s the concept?”
Recent comments from EA’s Patrick Söderlund also confirm that it was DICE who were delaying a sequel to Mirror’s Edge as they spent a few years going through many different ideas until they finally approached EA with a pitch. At least we know now that a sequel to Mirror’s Edge is on the way but not much is know about it as of yet. When the game is released, it will be available on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
