The Castlevania series from Konami has been thrilling gamers ever since the first installment released on the NES back in 1986. Most recently the Xbox 360 and PS3 has played host to a more western re-imagining of the series, taking it into God of War territory. As a spin-off of that title; Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, a handheld 3DS spin-off was released earlier this year which took a more side-scrolling, ‘metroidvania’ take on proceedings. Now it appears that the spin-off is itself getting an HD conversion and will be hitting the major consoles very soon.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD (phew!) will be releasing on Xbox Live and PSN on October 31st, just in time for some spooky Halloween scares. The game gathered some pretty good reviews when it launched on 3DS so it should be a welcome addition to the console library, particularly at the lower price point that a digital release suggests. In the game, the player takes on the role of three stalwarts of the Castlevania series; Simon and Trevor Belmont and Alucard, the son of Dracula who starred in the fantastic Symphony of the Night.
If you like your Castlevania more epic and 3D, then you will also be interested to know that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be out later this year on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
