Microsoft Insists That Xbox One Games Will Not Be Region Locked

Share And Comment

Well it seems that any game that is launched through the Xbox One system will not be restricted due to the region locking process.  This news comes after the recent announcement Microsoft made, in which the console will be delayed for release in eight countries all across Europe.  This includes the UK, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Austria and Italy.

This actually provides a sort of workaround for the countries who have to deal with the news of the delayed console, since gamers could purchase it somewhere else.

Microsoft states that,

“When the console launches this November, we will support Xbox One in 13 markets. Xbox One may be used in all countries, including the non-launched markets. In addition, Xbox One games are not region locked. Any Xbox One game purchased at retail can be used in any country on any Xbox One. That said, there needs to be a valid payment method corresponding to a supported launch country in order for any transactions to occur over Xbox Live, and some content may not be accessible outside launch markets due to geographic content restrictions imposed by content right holders.”

The delay of the console in eight potential markets, was a result of implementing a number of languages in the dashboard for voice support. According to Microsoft’s Director of Marketing, Albert Penello,

“This was simply a software issue in terms of getting local language and voice support in the dash. It’s pretty straightforward, but disappointing I know for people who are missing launch.”

So what do you think about this? I’m sure you’re happy about it, but does this make you choose one console over the other? Let us know!
