Once upon a time, Ridge Racer was one of the biggest names in gaming, helping to launch the original PlayStation console and owning arcades with its “Riiiiidge Raaaaceeeeer!” battle cry. These days however, aside from a couple of pretty decent PSP versions of the game, the Ridge Racer name is not what it used to be. If Namco Bandai has their way however that will change pretty soon, with the latest incarnation of the series, Ridge Racer Driftopia, using the free to play model that we recently saw employed on Tekken Revolution.
Ridge Racer Driftopia is based around leader-board challenges, with players attempting to shave off seconds from their rivals track times and climb the worldwide rankings. No doubt that the the free to play model will come into effect with additional purchases of new cars, tracks and ‘booster cards’ to help you in this task. Of course any online game, free to play or not, needs a beta phase in order to iron out any potential bugs or issues, and that’s where you guys come in. Well, it does if you are from any of the countries listed below:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom.
No news yet whether this beta promotion is coming to the US, but in the meantime if you do live in any of those countries and want to sign up for some early Ridge Racer action, then check out the link HERE and register your interest.
