Microsoft is making no secret of the fact that they are focusing as much on media and TV for their next generation Xbox One as they are on games. Already a Halo TV series has been confirmed at E3 as being exclusive to the new Xbox One TV service, and Remedy’s Quantum Break is being described as a mixed game and TV show, where you determine the outcome of the story.
According to website Deadline, the much discussed reboot of classic British sci-fi show Blake’s 7 will also now be heading exclusively to the Xbox platform, as opposed to SyFy, which was its original home.
Blake’s 7 was a BBC TV show from the late 70’s and early 80’s, featuring a band of misfits on the run from the evil federation. If you can imagine a more edgy Star Wars, but made on the budget of a REALLY cheap episode of Doctor Who then you should be bang on the money. Of course this reboot should take full advantage of modern CGI technology and with the director of Casino Royale and Green Lantern Martin Campbell on board for the pilot, there is a lot of hope attached to the remake. Whether or not it will be a worthy addition to the strengthening Xbox TV brand remains to be seen, but it is certainly good news for those that want to use their console for more than just gaming.
