The Kinect sensor is already an impressive piece of kit and does the job it was built to do well but now it has been taken to a whole new level. There is new technology that allows users to turn any surface into a touch screen like you will have seen in any number of science-fiction movies over the years and possibly the best news about this is that it is not nearly as expensive as you think it is going to be. The tech is a combination of software from Ubi Interactive (no association with Ubisoft) and the Kinect device.
It originally started as a prototype but the software is now available for consumers to buy and costs anywhere from $149 to $1499 to buy although that is dependent on which version you buy. Once bought, it must then be used in combination with a projector and a Kinect sensor. Finally, once a PC is loaded with the software, the Kinect sensor’s 3D mapping capability allows you to user any surface like you would a tablet or smartphone i.e. clicking, zooming and scrolling through applications and web pages.
That is very impressive indeed and it is a perfect demonstration of what the Kinect sensor is capable of. An interesting way this could be used is with Smartglass as you could turn your table into the second screen instead of requiring a tablet or smartphone. Do you think this software could be used in combination with the Xbox One in some way? Please let us know in the comments below.
