Major Nelson, AKA Larry Hyrb, has been a useful source of information regarding the Xbox One, and now his latest podcast has brought us some Gamescom news. The head of Microsoft Studios: Phil Spencer was a guest on the podcast, and told listeners about the Microsoft presentation in Germany next week.”We’re going to have a really short stage presentation with some news talking about some unique exclusive coming to [Xbox One].”
He also said that the company would be talking about “Europe’s biggest franchise and maybe some interesting things there.” Europe’s biggest franchise likely refers to FIFA football from EA, so I would personally expect maybe a timed exclusivity deal, if not for the game itself then some DLC packages.
The all-new exclusive does sound interesting, although the word ‘unique’ perhaps describes something in the vein of quirky titles like Lococycle or The Gunstringer, rather than true AAA mega-games. I guess we will find out on August 20th for sure. In addition to their show, Microsoft will be focusing on new playable versions of all of their previously announced launch titles, so expect Gamescom attendees to play Forza 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Killer Instinct, and Zoo Tycoon on the show floor. Regrettably we won’t be in Germany this year to let you know our hands-on impressions, but if the games (including this new exclusive?) are shown off at Tokyo Games Show next month, rest assured we will be hands-on for that.
