Despite the PlayStation 4 due to hit the streets in a few short months, the juggernaut that is the PS3 shows no signs of slowing down. With the PS4 probably aiming itself at the hardcore big spending early adopters, the PS3 will seemingly be aimed at a younger entry-level market, as we are already seeing with products like Wonderbook. Particularly here in Europe, the 12 GB Flash memory model of the PS3 is being aggressively aimed at this market, and after repeated denials, it seems that the model is now also heading to the US.
The 12 GB PS3 model was initially announced last September as exclusive to the European and Hong Kong territories, with Sony specifically stating the cheaper console would not be heading to North America. The ‘Super Slim’ model has now however been spotted through various outlets in Canada and also at a Kmart showroom in the US, with a display date of August 18th. The Canadian price is listed at $199.99, $70 cheaper than the 250 GB Hard drive model of the Super Slim.
