The Final Fantasy series has a fond place in many gamers’ hearts, with the PSOne classic Final Fantasy VII probably foremost in the affections of everyone who has played it. Ask most fans about their second favorite installment in the series and it’s a fair bet that a good percentage of them will reply with Final Fantasy X, the epic title that was released for the PlayStation 2 way back in 2001.
That game merged a mesmerizing story with some of the most tactical combat the series had seen up to that point, so the news that it would be heading to the PlayStation 3 and Vita as an HD remake was received extremely well when it was first announced. Unfortunately it has been a long wait for the remake, with the Vita version in particular being lost in action for a while before it was reconfirmed earlier this year. As we approach the release date for both versions however the good news has started to roll in – with some lovely HD images from the game recently released.
These remakes aren’t only tarted-up versions of the original games however, as all-new content has been promised. The Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will contain content from the Japan-only International editions of the original games, and also features a brand new audio drama scene. This new audio content has been created solely for the new games, and has been written by Kazushige Nojima. It remains to be seen how the audio-only scenes will tie into the visuals of the game, but 30 minutes of new material has been promised which should expand the already great storyline of Final Fantasy X.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD will be available on both PS3 and Vita later this year. Whilst the PS3 version contains HD versions of both games, the Vita releases will be separate for each title. More news on exact release date and pricing as soon as we get it. Check out the trailer for the new audio drama scene below and let us know what you guys think.
