PS Plus Not Needed To Record / Stream PS4 Game Video

After Microsoft confirmed to Game Informer yesterday that you have to be an Xbox Live Gold member in order to access the Game DVR features of the Xbox One, the gaming community waited with baited breath to see what approach Sony would take with regards to the streaming and recording of game video. Well we now have the official answer as Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s president of Worldwide Studios, has confirmed on Twitter that a PlayStation Plus account is not needed to record and stream game video.

Shuhei Yoshida was prompted to clarify the matter after being asked some questions by fans on Twitter. You can see the conversations below:

It is good news that you won’t need a PS Plus account to record and stream game video and maybe that is the path that Microsoft should have gone down although that is up for debate. The PS4 will be able to buffer 15 minutes of video, which is cool, but time will tell as to how much fans will actually use it and whether the Game DVR features of the Xbox One will be more popular.
