Al Jean: The Simpsons RPG Has Been Discussed Before

The Simpsons is arguably one of the best television shows of all time but the video game world has been less kind to the famous family having entertained plenty of titles based on The Simpsons, with only a few actually being considered any good (Tapped Out, Hit & Run). Al Jean, one of the writers on The Simpsons, has confirmed that – at some point – been talk of an RPG based on the show and he also revealed that more Simpsons games could be heading our way on the back of the success achieved by Tapped Out.

Could an RPG based on The Simpsons work?

Jean was speaking during a GoldDerby Google Hangout when the possibility of an RPG set in The Simpsons universe was raised:

“Yeah, we’ve talked about it. It’s a really complicated thing to do, especially because you have to write a number of possibilities for each occurrence.”

“We’ve been at it so long. I mean, the first game was an arcade game. So there’s been unbelievable history to the video games that have come off the show. And we’re a ride at [Universal Studios], which is amazing. So I think that kind of thing is not going to stop. In fact, it will just increase.”

So for now at least there is no Simpsons RPG game but at least we know it has been discussed which could mean that we will get to see the game one-day? Would you be interested in an RPG game based on The Simpsons and what features would you like to see in it? Please tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

I'm a big gaming fan who has been playing games since ever since Pokemon Yellow was released in the year 2000. I'm just glad that there are decent rugby games on the PS3 now after years of nothing. I need another Uncharted game...NOW!!!!!
