id Software Co-Founder: ‘Rage’ Franchise Is “Not Dead”

Rage was released in 2011 with fans and critics both enjoying the game’s impressive visuals, brutal and satisfying combat, and addictive multiplayer but there has not been much talk about a sequel so most people just presumed that there were no plans to make one. However, at this year’s QuakeCon, id Software co-founder Tom Willits has said that the franchise is not dead and that Rage was never meant to be a single, one-off experience, with no follow-up.

It might be a while yet before a Rage sequel emerges

Speaking in an interview with Joystiq, Willits assured gamers that the franchise wasn’t dead but didn’t explicitly announce any plans for a sequel at this time:

“I’m proud of what we did, I’m proud of the universe that we built. The franchise is not dead. We’re not doing anything immediately with it, but when I designed the universe, I designed it in such a way that it would be easy to step back into. I’m still proud that we did something that was different – it wasn’t like the games that we’ve done in the past.”

So while it looks like we are not going to get a sequel to rage anytime soon, at least we know that we will probably see one at some point in the future, possibly on next-gen consoles which would be cool to say the least. What would like to see in the sequel to Rage? Please let us know what you think in the comments below.

I'm a big gaming fan who has been playing games since ever since Pokemon Yellow was released in the year 2000. I'm just glad that there are decent rugby games on the PS3 now after years of nothing. I need another Uncharted game...NOW!!!!!
