Ace Combat Infinity will be free-to-play as a PlayStation 3 exclusive later this year. Namco Bandai Europe’s senior vice president Olivier Comte had this to say:
The Ace Combat franchise has evolved dramatically over the years, but never before have we been able to offer its amazing graphics and tactical action for free. The team at Project Aces listens very carefully to its players, and is bringing the best the series has to offer to Ace Combat Infinity, with plenty of new surprises too.
If you haven’t been paying much attention, more and more AAA titles will be releasing as free-to-play games. It’s a great idea, definitely a smart move, and also scares the living crap out of me. “Nickel-and-diming” has been around ever since DLC was invented. Now you have free-to-play games which are totally cool, but can definitely be frustrating if their micro-transactions aren’t set up properly.
