FEZ II Gets Canceled While Phil Fish Breaks Down

During E3, Fez II was announced in a very brief teaser, but no other additional details was revealed about this soon to be popular game. But as of several days ago, Polytron released a public statement via their website that FEZ II’s development was cancelled. According to Fez creator Phil Fish, the game was cancelled due to Phil leaving the gaming industry.  Polytron reports:

“FEZ II is cancelled. i am done. i take the money and i run. this is as much as i can stomach. this is isn’t the result of any one thing, but the end of a long, bloody campaign. you win.”

The “bloody campaign” that Phil is referring to is most likely the numerous amount of hate mail he has received – some being related to his outspoken comments regarding other games as well as gamers, to the comments he said or didn’t say concerning Microsoft, and just other times due to the jealously of Fez’s financial success.

Adding more to the message, Phil Fish tweeted:

to be clear, im not cancelling FEZ II because some boorish f*** said something stupid, im doing it to get out of games,”

He then followed up with “and im getting out of games because i choose not to put up with this abuse anymore.

This led to angry fans and gamers alike, flooding his Twitter account with angry tweets ranging from how much of a jerk Phil Fish is, to a fan claiming that Phil Fish told him to commit suicide.

But the fans angry tweets were just adding more fuel to the already consuming fire going all over Twitter, which led to Phil Fish ranting and raving all over his personal Twitter account.

It has been speculated that the cancellation of the game was due to people’s opinions of Phil’s appearance in the movie Indie Game: The Movie, as well as his outspoken tweets via his personal Twitter account, including his most recent interactions between himself and the fans.

It is speculated that Phil Fish is just throwing some form of a fit and he will be back to complete the game.  But Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinksi decided to write an open letter via his blog to the Fez developer in hopes that Fish would return to complete the game and get over this petty attitude.

I personally believe that Fish shows the attitude of an immature child.  He is throwing a fit due to disagreements between himself and a journalist.  Due to this behavior, he has hurt many fans of Fez and those who were hoping for Fez II.  I doubt Fish will return.
