Back in March of Dark Horse Comics provided the world with an “origins” back story for Lara Croft as part of the recent reboot of the Tomb Raider series as brought to you by the wonderful people at Crystal Dynamics.  For a lot of fans this was a more than welcomed addition to the game and provided players with a look behind the curtain on just who Lara Croft is in this new Tomb Raider world.

Well I have some awesome news for you friends.  If you thought that Dark Horse and Crystal Dynamics hit a home run on the first comic book, then you are in some serious luck.  Both Dark Horse Comics and Crystal Dynamics have announced they will be releasing an entire Tomb Raider series that is due to hit shelves in late February 2014 taking all of us for an amazing journey with the new Lara Croft.  But wait, what’s that? There’s more?  Indeed.  Not only will you get to flip through the glossy pages of a comic book to learn more about our favorite cave diving heroine, Crystal Dynamics confirmed in a recent interview with Kotaku that the comic books will indeed drive readers and players alike towards the next game in the series.  In other words, the comics books will continue Lara’s story as we currently understand it, build even more upon it and lead directly into the next title.

When questioned on this topic, Dark Horse Comics writer Gail Simone summed the situation up like this:

“..we start just a few weeks after the end of the game, and this is all in continuity, it will be Tomb Raider canon, and lead DIRECTLY into the sequel. This is what got me excited; we get to be part of Lara Croft history.”

So be sure to keep an eye out in February for the new Tomb Raider series and get a leg up on what’s next for the franchise.  The future looks bright for this IP, let’s see how it turns out!

I started gaming when it was nothing more than green screens and clunky keyboards. Today, I play everything and anything that provides for a gaming experience. Good, bad, indifferent, and some times even ugly. I'm here to tell you whats up.
