Remember when GameStop ceased taking pre-orders for the Xbox One? Apparently, the reason for this was that the demand for the console was “through the roof” according to the Xbox chief of staff, Aaron Greenberg. He made the comment on Twitter last night after another user had asked him if anymore Xbox One consoles would be available for pre-order at the retailer. “Demand was through the roof, so pre-orders stopped for now,” Greenberg said. “Get on the GameStop first to know list for pre-order updates.”
It is not only the Xbox One that is subject to high pre-order demand at GameStop with the PlayStation 4 also having pre-orders for it suspended after GameStop had reached their limit. One thing that is not known is precisely how well the two consoles are doing in terms of overall pre-orders as neither Microsoft or Sony will reveal anything but Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, did say that pre-orders were “two times” higher than the previous console generation.
