Diablo 3 may be launching on September 3rd for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4 but it will not be arriving on the PS4 until 2014, according to developer Blizzard Entertainment. The information was revealed in an interview conducted by Diablo Fans with Blizzard’s Josh Mosqueira, Travis Day and Wyatt Cheng which they then summarized and put on their website. You can read the full summary here.
Mosqueira, Day and Cheng explain why there is a delay in the release of Diablo 3 on the PlayStation 4:
“The Diablo 3 team has actually just received the new PS4 development kits so the translation for that platform is yet to be done.”
“Diablo 3 will not be a launch date title for the PS4. It will come in 2014.”
An update to the summary article on Diablo Fans revealed a few more interesting things about the game. The first thing is that there was no reference made to the Xbox One with all next-gen comments specifically mentioning the PS4 so it is not known if the game will see a release on the Xbox One. The second piece of information states that the PS4 version was delayed to fully utilize the features such as the DualShock 4 touchpad and the Share button (which can’t be done without the PS4 dev kits).
The final information added in the article explained that when an expansion pack arrives for Diablo 3, it won’t be shipped simultaneously across all formats and will actually be released separately after being tailored for the respective platform that it is being released on. That makes sense as no one wants a rushed product and the extra time will ensure that it will hopefully be the best version of the game that it can be on that platform.
