Angry Birds Star Wars 2 has been officially announced today by developer Rovio and will drop on various mobile devices on September 19th. The game will focus on the three prequel movies, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Episode 2: Attack of the Clones and Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, as well as introducing new characters to the Angry Birds Star Wars franchise. A new mode allows you to play as the pigs and is titled “Join the Pork Side” which sounds just…odd but it will be fun to play as the bad guys in this game instead of constantly playing the hero.

The game is also said to include integration with Hasbro’s Telepods line, and this will allow players to unlock new in-game features by simply placing the toy figurines in line with the camera in their respective mobile device. Reportedly, there will be more than 30 Telepods figures available at the launch of the game so there is plenty for the fans to go at and hopefully it will enhance the game instead of seeming like a cheap gimmick. Various other merchandise including clothing and books along with other things are going to be available in conjunction with the game.

Rovio executive vice president of games Jami Laes spoke of the new game in a press release:

“Angry Birds Star Wars was a blockbuster hit for us and Lucasfilm with over 100 million downloads since its release. We are thrilled to be able to introduce the exciting next chapter in the Angry Birds Star Wars saga to our fans around the world. Some of the most amazing character additions are versions of young Anakin, Mace Windu and Darth Maul. Hasbro’s Telepods technology also provides a great way to extend the experience beyond the app and bring a whole new dimension to the gameplay.”

Until the game is released you can check out the trailer for the game below and please let us know what you think about this announcement and whether you are looking forward to the game or not in the comments section.

I'm a big gaming fan who has been playing games since ever since Pokemon Yellow was released in the year 2000. I'm just glad that there are decent rugby games on the PS3 now after years of nothing. I need another Uncharted game...NOW!!!!!
