Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Ubisoft, Tony Key told Gamespot that Far Cry 4 is a sure thing. He said that Far Cry 3 finally got the series the recognition it deserves, so they’re obviously going to make another one.
Far Cry 3 blew my mind. And yeah, I really liked the story. I honestly thought the game was better than the new Tomb Raider. Both are masterpieces. Although, Far Cry 3‘s gameplay issues on PC are absolutely horrendous. I’m a little worried about Far Cry 4 after reading something else Key told Gamespot. He says that gamers don’t want linear experiences. I actually forgot about this, I had heard him say it before. Wrong buddy, wrong. The reason Far Cry 3 was so amazing to me was because there was a fluid transition of going from open world randomness straight into a mission and vice versa. I’d never experienced that before. It was perfect.
If you make Far Cry 4 an open world game without the same option to go linear, I will hate you! Probably. A big reason I’ve never been able to finish Just Cause 2 is because I didn’t like being forced into doing absolutely pointless random destruction in order to open up a story mission. I could be misunderstanding the sentiment though. When I read “gamers don’t like linear gameplay”, I take it to mean “gamers don’t like to follow a story”.
Key said we should be able to expect an announcement on Far Cry 4 soon.
