Deus Ex: The Fall Jailbreak Patch Coming Soon Says Square

Folks who purchased the recently released Deus Ex: The Fall and happened to own a jailbroken device got quite the surprise the first time they attempted to fire a weapon while playing the game. They couldn’t. Instead, they got a notice that read  “We are sorry but you can’t fire on jailbroken devices”. Seems like something Square should have told folks before the game went on sale. As more and more people began noticing the issue, people took to the web to express their outrage at the fact that they paid really money for a game that wouldn’t work properly on the device they bought it for.

That was then and this is now. Now Square has come out and admitted that they didn’t properly communicate the limitation for jailbroken devices and therefore they will be issuing a patch that will allow the game to run unhindered on jailbroken devices. This should resolve the issue for both current and future jailbreak players.

In a statement to Kotaku, Square was very straight forward in admitting their error:

“We have not been clear in our communication earlier this week when we launched Deus Ex: The Fall. We did not state clearly that the game would not support jailbroken devices and so we will be switching this off via an update, so that all the supported iOS devices will be able to play the game in the near future.

We feel it’s the right thing to do in this situation and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. No customer should be out of pocket when we were not clear from the start, so we’ll get the game updated as soon as possible so that everyone who wants to play Deus Ex: The Fall can do regardless of whether their device is jailbroken or not.”

So that’s definitely good news for folks affected by the issue and those that had vowed not to buy the game because of the issue. The only bad news we have for you is that we don’t have any exact date of when the patch will be released besides the ” as soon as possible” you saw in the statement below.  For anyone that was affected by this, what do you think? Is issuing a patch enough  or should they give you something for your trouble? What did you think when you first saw the notice about not being able to fire? Hit up the comments and let us know.
