A question came up about conserving battery life for the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller by turning off the Light Bar. Shuhei Yoshida originally answered that users would not be able to turn it off. That hasn’t changed, but developers can, so there’s hope!
A tweet from a game developer asking Shuhei Yoshida if developers would be able to turn off the light, was answered with, “Yes”. So if anybody was worried about draining their PS4 controllers faster than usual, I imagine by the time the system is out that regular users will be able to turn it off. I think there’s still a chance we may not be able to turn it off. Developers have their kits to work with and all that so it’s a different set-up than what we will encounter. But if developers of the games want to turn it off, I imagine Sony might find a way for users to have easy access to the same feature. I don’t really see it as an issue. The light can’t drain that much power can it? I’d want to leave it on just because it looks so cool!
