Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the standalone spin-off in the Far Cry series has done incredibly well selling 500,000 copies according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. In an interview with Games Industry International, Guillemot explained that a Ubisoft’s digital exclusive titles had been a big area of growth for the company and he then cited the sales statistics of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon as an example having sold 500,000 copies in just two months.
Blood Dragon was apparently so well received by both gamers and critics that it actually boosted sales of the original Far Cry 3 game. Hopefully this news of the success of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will see Ubisoft creating more standalone spinoff titles and boy do they have a library of games to choose from. Imagine what they could do with the Splinter Cell license for example.
