Reggie Fils-Aime has said that Nintendo is not feeling under pressure from the new next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft as they are targeting a completely different area of the market. It was not explicitly stated which area of the market this would be so feel free to guess. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata had a slightly differing opinion when he stated that the poor sales from the Wii U could be blamed on entirely on Nintendo, which he partially blamed on the lack of games to entice people to the console.
Referring to the competition for Microsoft and Sony in an interview with Kotaku, Regis Fils-Aime said:
“It puts no pressure on us at all. Sony and Microsoft are going to do what they’re going to do.”
“From my perspective, I can’t focus on that. I have to focus on: How do we satisfy the needs of all of the consumers out there with Nintendo products? How do we make sure they understand our proposition? How do we make sure they’re excited about the software that we offer?”
This is an interesting stance for Nintendo to take, as they could be missing out on sales by only concentrating on a certain area of the market instead of having a wider area of focus. Do you think Nintendo is doing the right thing by limiting its market focus or are they making a big mistake? Please let us know in the comments below.
