We’ve got some great news for Assassin’s Creed fans. The CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, has confirmed that they are currently developing three new Assassin’s Creed games, each developed by a different team. Normally, having a different team work on different titles like this would worry me but Ubisoft seems to have proven that they can do it and do it at a high level.
In an interview with Kotaku, Guillemot said “We are making sure the teams who are creating the different iterations have enough time – two years, three years, so that they can take risk and they can change the concept enough so that it can be appealing and fresh.”
As gamers that is what you like to hear, that even though they will presumably have new Assassin’s Creed titles coming out every year, the games themselves will have been in development for two or three years. That’s how you maintain a high quality product. With respect to what those three titles are, Guillemot didn’t say. We can confidently assume that one is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. As for the other two, it would make sense that he’s referring to the next two yearly installments but he could also be referring to a mobile or handheld title as well.
In any case this should mean that we have plenty more high quality Assassin’s Creed action coming our way over the next few years. It’s going to be truly exciting to see what Ubisoft can do with the power they now have with the PS4 and Xbox One at their disposal. In any case it should be good for gamers.
