Outlast, a first-person horror game that had previously been confirmed only for the PC has now been announced for the PlayStation 4. It is being developed by Red Barrels who can count ex-Naughty Dog and Ubisoft Montreal creative directors among their staff so the game already has some weight to it. Philippe Morin, co-founder of Red Barrels, says they wanted to create a “a realistic survival horror game, (which) wasn’t the type of thing any big companies were willing to take a risk on”.
So what is the story in this horror title? You play as a journalist who takes it upon himself to investigate rumors about experiments allegedly being conducted in a re-opened insane asylum. Naturally they all turn out to be true so Miles must investigate them more but you won’t be able to fight off anyone (or anything) that attacks you, as you are powerless and vulnerable against them.
Outlast will drop on the PS4 sometime next year and I can’t wait to play it as it looks to be one tense, scary game. You can read more about the game on the PlayStation Blog and we at ZKG will keep you updated with more info about the game over the coming months.
