The basic model of the Wii U (i.e. the white version with 8 GB of storage) could be on its way out or at least that appears to be the case at GameStop if a report on Kotaku is to be believed. All employees of the software retailer have been informed that the Wii U basic model will be recalled on June 18 which is only one week after a Nintendo Direct broadcast coinciding with this years’ E3 at which there will also be a Wii U “software showcase”.
Nintendo told Kotaku: “We do not comment on our business practices with retailers” which doesn’t help us a great deal but you can judge the evidence for yourselves and make up your own mind. The console has been underperforming since its launch and news like as this is certainly not going to help its cause but hopefully a few decent titles such as Pimkin 3 will help boost the profile of the console.
