Now that we at least know the names of both of the next-gen consoles, the number of games being announced for the PS4 and Xbox One is increasing daily. The latest title in this growing list to be confirmed for the platforms is a new Need for Speed, being developed as a collaboration between Swedish outfit Ghost Games and Criterion.
Need for Speed Rivals runs on the Frostbite 3 engine, and in a similar way to Most Wanted, sees players driving to avoid cops and rival drivers encroaching on their turf. In addition to this, an MMO type feature will also see players coming across their friends online, and as each player works through the single player campaign they will also come into contact with other real-life gamers. Ghost Games is calling this feature Alldrive, and billing it as a true blend of single and multiplayer.
Need for Speed Rivals will also see the return of Ferrari to the EA franchise after seven years. So far the F12berlinetta has been confirmed for the game. The release date for the title has been set as November 19th, and PS4 and Xbox One versions will hit at some disclosed point ‘later this year’ – count on it being a launch title for both. Will there be enough space for it among the first party driving titles DriveClub and Forza 5? We shall see.
