Final Fantasy XIV Gets A Release Date And Pre-Order Bonuses

OK, so we all know that the Final Fantasy franchise has been going through a tough time lately, with most of the recent releases showing a drop in quality following the glory days of the PS1/PS2. Whilst most of the world is crying out for a classic single player adventure in the vein of Final Fantasy VII or X, instead Square Enix seems intent on getting us to fork out a monthly subscription to play an MMO.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been available on the PC for a while now, and was released to middling reviews. Of course we will reserve judgement on the PS3 version until the game is launched (and one of us gets to play it of course!), but right now it seems that Square Enix just isn’t giving the fans what they want.

If you are interested in giving Final Fantasy XIV a go however, you will be interested to learn that the game has been confirmed for a 27th August launch, and that some tasty pre-order incentives are on offer. Here is what is in store for you if you get your orders in sharpish;

• Early Access – Get a head start and leave your mark in the realm of Eorzea with this early access to the game servers ahead of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s launch.

• Cait Sith Doll Minion – On sabbatical from Shinra Inc. and looking for adventure, Cait Sith will join your party as a non-combat pet.

• Mog Cap – Strut around the world of Eorzea with this one-of-a-kind Moogle-themed hat. Kupo!

In addition to the standard version of the game, there is also a FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Collector’s Edition available. The Collector’s Edition contains the following items:

• Art of Eorzea – An 80-page hardcover art book featuring never-before-seen concept art.

• The Waning of the Sixth Sun – A special bonus video disc that takes a cinematic look at the events leading up to the realm being reborn.

• Sounds of Eorzea – An album that features musical scores by renowned FINAL FANTASY series composers.

• Art Cards – Five collectable character cards.

• In-game bonus items – Helm of Light, Baby Behemoth Minion, Coeurl Mount and Behemoth Barding

The standard version of the game is $39.99, and the collectors edition retails at $79.99. Just remember that as well as buying the game, you will need to fork out £7.69/€10.99 for it every month. No US prices have been released yet for the subscription fee, but unconfirmed reports expect it to be around the $14/$15 price range.
