To the excitement of many fans, Bethesda and MachineGames recently announced Wolfenstein: The New Order. They tandem has gone a bit further now and confirmed that the game will not have multiplayer component. The game’s creative director, Jens Matthies, recently told GameSpot that the new Wolfenstein will consist of only a single player campaign, and will not include mutliplayer.
“It’s such a huge part of video game legacy. If there’s a video game museum, Wolfenstein is in the first room. It’s the start of the wave that shaped the world of gaming.
On a personal level, I played this when I was younger and it was mind-blowing, I never then of course dreamed that I was going to be working with it. It’s both an honor and a legacy.”
This latest piece of news will no doubt make hardcore Wolfenstien fans extremely happy and some folks new to the franchise that were intrigued by the announcement less so. Personally, I like the move from Bethesda, I know I’m in the majority here but some games and franchises just don’t need multiplayer. I truly believe that some games should be a single, cohesive experience that takes you on a wild ride and then its over. I don’t mind additional story DLC later but I don’t think multiplayer should be done just to be done. Wolfenstein is a classic franchise, it has a enough history and appeal to not need the the development team splitting cycles on figuring out how to integrate some kind of multiplayer aspect. I think last year games like Dishonored and Sleeping Dogs that single player only experiences are still here and can excellent in their own right.
As always that’s just my opinion, what’s yours? How do you feel about the news that Wolfenstein: The New Order will not have a multiplayer component? Hit up the comments and let us know.
