The Walt Disney Company and Electronic Arts Inc have announced a new multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish globally new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines. Under the agreement, EA will develop and publish new Star Wars titles for a core gaming audience, spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres, while Disney will retain certain rights to develop new titles within the mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.
EA revealed that both DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new games may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay. So once you get past the fact that this probably mean a lot more Star Wars action in our future, you have to look at the studios involved. In particular, one has to look at Dead Space developer, Visceral, who after the poor showing of Dead Space 3 were in a bit of limbo. We would assume that they will be tasked with putting all their energy into Star Wars development and that may mean the end of or at the very least a bit of a hiatus for Dead Space. There is nothing official on that front but we will keep you up to date as this story develops over the coming weeks and months.
