This is yet another reason why I’m not betting on the Wii U in the long-term. Not only did Tiger Woods 14 to make it to the console, as of right now, there are no EA games officially scheduled for release on the platform. EA has finally officially confirmed that Madden NFL 25 will not be available on Wii U.
In hindsight, Madden 13 did release on the Wii U and wasn’t terrible but still was inferior to its PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts. The bigger deal though is that the Wii U’s target demographic just isn’t there, hardcore Madden fans already own a PS3 or 360 and probably see no reason to switch anytime soon. I’m sorry but while the Wii U is a major leap over the Wii, it can’t truly be considered next-gen and I’ve said as much before. The PS4 and next Xbox will blow it out of the water by absolutely crushing it in terms of power and versatility. Most of the features that the Wii came out and surprised Sony and Microsoft with last gen are now core parts of their upcoming consoles so Nintendo no longer has any advantage there.
At this point, there’s still no word on other popular sports titles but one could expect that if third-party developers can’t make money putting their game out on the platform then they won’t . I’m not bashing the Wii U, if you are a Nintendo fan then its a must own console but if you happen to be sports fan too, you might want to make sure you have another system in your arsenal as well.
