Tomb Raider Won’t Receive Any Single Player DLC, Will Focus On Multiplayer

The latest Tomb Raider reboot was a huge success and we said so in our recent Tomb Raider review. The game did a great job of adding a breath of fresh air to the franchise and really giving it some room to grow. While the multiplayer left some wanting, the core of Tomb Raider has and will continue to be the single player experience. The game did a good job of wrapping things up for the most part but I would have loved to see more single player DLC for the game, perhaps doing something similar to Dishonored and exploring the origins of the game’s main antagonist. Looks like that won’t be happening though. Personally, I think it’s a missed opportunity but obviously Crystal Dynamics doesn’t.

During a recent Reddit AMA, Tomb Raider global brand director, Karl Stewart, confirmed that there are currently no plans create single-player focused DLC for the game. As expected, they only current DLC plans are additions to multiplayer which is becoming an unsettling trend. I know that its much easier to do (and cheaper), but I think it does a major disservice to fans of single player, games often present so many options to explore additional angles from the main narrative that hardly ever get leveraged. If you preordered the game you received an additional special tomb in the game which gave some hope that we might at least see some single player expansion there but alas that doesn’t seem likely either.

In any case, Tomb Raider is an excellent game, definitely a must play if you haven’t already. For all of us single player fans, guess we will have to wait a few years for the next one to continue our adventures with Lara Croft.
