A while back we brought you the news that Disney was working on an open world game to be a direct competitor to Activision’s Skylanders, and that the title was due for release in June, alongside the new Monsters Inc. movie, Monsters University. Now however, it looks like the title has been delayed until August, specifically the 18th in North America and Europe 2 days later.
The New York Times is reporting that the delay has nothing to do with the game not being ready, but has been specifically chosen by Disney. Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants explained, “We could deliver in June if we wanted to. Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops.”
The next iteration of Skylanders is out around this time as well, so it seems Disney is aiming on hitting the early part of the holiday sales rush, and going toe to toe with Activision at the same time. Disney Infinity is currently planned for release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii U, Wii and 3DS.
