Zombie survival MMO game The War Z is again available for download on the Steam. The game initially released on Steam in December 2012, and created quite a controversy. The game was pulled from Steam that very same month after Steam said that it had “prematurely” released a copy of War Z for sale on Steam. As soon as the game was released, it immediately came under attack for those who purchased with complaints that what the game promised and what it delivered didn’t match. Some of the areas in question were server capacity and map size. If that wasn’t enough, post-release, Hammerpoint Interactive, decided that it would be a good idea to change key features for the worst, a particular unpopular move was when they increased the respawn time from one hour to four hours. The reason that this didn’t go over well is that for a fee, you could instantly respawn, which absolutely made it look like a money grab for what many people already considered a subpar product. The updated version that is now on Steam makes no mention of any of those features that caused such a stir the first time. It seems that Hammerpoint may be learning to underpromise and then over deliver.
The new War Z has received several content updates and now includes many more of the features that players have been demanding. Players will be able to join existing servers or rent their own private server to play with friends and/or clan mates. New content and features for the game will be added in the coming months, providing new gameplay options for the community.
For what its worth, Hammerpoint admitted to becoming enamored with the game’s early success and thus ignoring the concerns raised by the community. They’ve promised not to let that happen this time and instead work to deliver a gaming experience that players can be happy with it. And now for those of you that have no clue what War Z is.
The War Z is an online, multiplayer, survival-simulation game set in an open world infested with zombies. Players are thrust into this post-apocalyptic world five-years after a viral outbreak that ravaged the human population and left, in its wake, a nightmare of epic proportion. Hordes of undead zombies roam the cities, and the few remaining human beings have devolved into a lawless, nomadic society where the sole objective is to survive at any cost. Players must use skill and cunning in order to acquire food, weapons and other supplies necessary for survival. While navigating the vast landscape, they will discover cities teeming with the undead as well as other players that may or may not be friendly.
So there you have it folks and what we want to hear from current or former The War Z players. If you own and play it, how is the game now vs the original release? For new players, what do you think of the game, is it worth sinking significant time into?
