In a recent interview with Silicon Republic, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe executive Michael Denny rather casually mentioned that Gran Turismo 6 would in fact be coming to PS3 this year. At first glance it may seem odd that this doesn’t also include PS4, it might, but it wouldn’t be surprising given how long the team has been working on this game. If reasonable PS4 dev units weren’t available in 2010 when they started development its possible, though I’m not sure if Sony would let one of their most popular franchises miss the opening salvo of its latest console.
Sony’s Michael Denny casually mentioned the long-in-development racer as coming this PlayStation 3 this year. The news on GT6 came as ran of a list of games he was using to tout how strong the PS3 2013 lineup would be. He said:
“Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin’s Creed, GTA”
While fans will no doubt be excited, we must keep in mind that we are talking about a Polyphony Digital developed game here and we all know how long they can take to deliver a game. With those guys I’d assume that the earliest we’ll see Gran Turismo 6 is mid to late 2014 but maybe this time they’ll surprise us. Then again, Gran Turismo 6 has been in development since 2010 so you just never know. I’d suspect that if we don’t see the game at E3 with a 2013 release date, then it won’t make this calendar. Either way we will keep you in the loop, so keep it locked right here.
