For all the things that we have found out that we won’t be able to bring over from our PS3 to the PS4, the PS4 will have some pretty cool new features. Sony has been focusing a lot on all the new social and sharing features, but there’s one new feature that a lot of people have glossed over but it could really change the way you play. When you download a game, the PlayStation 4 will allow you to start playing that game before its actually finished downloading. The PS4 comes with a secondary custom chip that handles background downloading and processing.
In the long run Sony wants to be able to understand what you play and therefore what kind of games you like. The more data they have about that, the more they’ll be able to assume what you might buy and pre-cache those games on your system ahead of time. There is a big push with the PS4 to drastically reduce the time between when you want to play a game and when you can actually start playing it. They are really working on making the time between when you think you want to play and you can actually physically start playing as short as possible.
This makes perfect sense and is something that has been done on PC for quite a while now. Ultimately, this should be nothing but good news for PS4 owners and if that predicative analysis works then this could really be a home run.
