The PlayStation meeting 2013 ended with a montage of clips of the eye-searing treats coming our way very soon, along with the exciting banner ‘coming Holiday 2013’. As firm launch plans probably won’t be discussed this side of E3, those words are all we have to give us an indication of when we can get our sweaty mitts on a Dual Shock 4. Spare a thought for us Europeans however, as even that loose date isn’t a certainty.
MCV spoke to the head of SCEE Jim Ryan, and directly asked him if the 2013 release date for the PlayStation 4 included Europe. His answer was, frankly, bizarre; “We’re not saying if 2013 includes Europe. But don’t infer anything from that. You can take that anyway you want, but you shouldn’t.” So maybe it will be this year, maybe not. Who knows? Not even Jim Ryan probably.
Of course its nothing new for a Sony console to be released in Japan and the USA a few months before we see it here in Europe, but the fact that the release could be after the Christmas period could be a blow for Sony if true, given that the PlayStation brand is pretty much neck and neck with Xbox over here, and if Microsoft manages to get their machine out earlier it could hurt Sony in the short-term.
