Despite playing host to a large number of decent games, the Vita still lacks the ‘must-own’ titles that make most people want to go out and drop a couple of hundred bucks on a handheld. Although Uncharted: Golden Abyss was a great game, it wasn’t quite enough alone to achieve this task, and the suspicious lack of God of War and Gran Turismo action still hurts. One franchise that is on its way to Vita however is Killzone, and we have some details and a new trailer to share with you.
Killzone: Mercenary is set after the events of the first game, and is the first not to place you in the shiny boots of a loyal ISA soldier. Instead you portray a character called Arran Danner, who is – you guessed it – a mercenary. This affects the missions you undertake as you work for both ISA and Helghast, depending on who pays the most. Your bank balance will also be reflected both through the eight-hour campaign mode, as well as 8 player multiplayer and the standalone ‘contracts’ option.
As you can see it all looks rather lovely, as it should being powered by the same engine behind Killzone 3. Killzone: Mercenary is due for release on September 18th and will hopefully represent a rise in the fortunes of the Vita. A price drop, or at least a new reasonably priced bundle containing the game and a large memory card would certainly make a big difference.
